My Review:
1960 EDITION REVIEW:
4 stars & 4/10 hearts. I enjoyed this version more than the 1930s one. I still find this first book a little trite and weak, but it was still enjoyable. Okay, so maybe the scene with the police gives this an extra star. xP I appreciated that the attitude towards the Tophams was changed and that the care keeper was not drunk. ;P The mystery is pretty much the same as the 1930 version, but the wrap-up here is better. Overall--the '30s ed. is interesting as very authentic but the '60s ed. is too and I prefer the '60s one.

1930 EDITION REVIEW:
3 stars & 3/10 hearts. I deeply enjoyed the throughly authentic ’30s feel of this book! I did miss Ned, Bess, and George though. ;) Nancy did have an unkind attitude towards the Tophams, and there was a half-drunk carekeeper that came up. The desperate excitement of this book kept me literally glued to my book!
Yeah, I read the orignial and was not super impressed. The yellow bound books will forever be my favorite. =)
ReplyDeleteBut I agree, these books are no really the strongest plot/character wise. I read the yellow bound ones when I was 11-14 and they were such a good influance on me. I still love them.
Yesssssssss :)
DeleteI love Nancy and always will. I just can't help being critical XD
I totally get that!
DeleteI love the 60s editions!!! They are by far my favorites! And don't worry, Bess, George and Ned will be around soon, though I confess I liked Helen a lot and was sad she didn't remain a consistent character...
ReplyDeleteHelen WAS really nice!! It's too bad she shows up so little.
