Setting/Aesthetic/Feel: 4/5

I watched this several years ago and remember liking it, though I acknowledged of a few errors. The southern setting is comforting, since I had close southern friends. 😉

Characters: 3.5/5

I was very, very annoyed by Jacob. The guy was just so stupid. Shep said it best: how did he actually make it through the academy? Lauren & Gabe were cute though, and Shep was pretty fun. Colton was fine. Denise, Daryl, & Larry drove me crazy, but they were supposed to, so.

Plot: 3.5/5

Having always dreamed of being married to a LEO, I admit the home setting of this film speaks a lot of me. However... I feel like the rest of the film leaves much to be desired. I feel pretty sure I caught quite a few unrealistic things, and I was annoyed by stereotypes as well. Also, the story is pretty predictable.

Romance: 4/5

Lauren & Colton are sweet, though Denise & Larry are of course extremely dysfunctional. A few (clean) scenes of kissing & cuddling, sharing a bed.

Theme/Message/Topics: 3.5/5

I'm annoyed by how Colton's months of struggle are A) instantly turned around by one prayer with the chaplain and B) oversimplified. Also, I couldn't see how Colton really exemplified "fearless faith." He... pretty much did the same stuff he'd been doing the whole film long. The funeral scene just—I don’t know, it bugged me somehow. The message is true, but feels cheap.

Content: 3/5 (medium)

Drugs; I think Lauren said O*G once; lots of verbal abuse & screaming.

Violence: 3/5 (medium)

Several people shot on screen; a few scenes of blood; police takedowns and danger.

Overall: 3.5/5

It wasn't terrible, it just... wasn't as good as it could've been.
